When lndia toured South Africa in 1992, Peter Kirsten ( who served later, as the coach of Indian Cricket team ) was mankaded ( a method of dismissal in cricket named in 1947 after the lndian Cricketer Late Vinoo Mankad ) by Kapil Dev. Subsequently an infuriated SA Captain Kepler Wesels ( an Australian cricketer who played for South Africa also) hit Kapil Dev on his legs with bat while taking a run, and later shamelessly denied it out of fear. On the other hand Kapil Dev gracefully walked away without creating scenes or directly confronting with Mr. Kepler Wesels in any way. It is here the greatness of Kapil Dev comes to light, as in a likewise situation, the Pakistan Legendary batsman Javed Miandad took on the great Dennis Lillee (Aus.) by a serious combat. Similarly many known cricketers lowered themselves by weak gestures on a cricket ground.
Sportsmanship shines brighter than competitive success on a given day. Honesty or integrity is greater than match records. Success is not victory every time!, but best efforts every time is victory! Upholding the decency of the game is a great cricketing feat above all others!!

Of good etiquettes, great manners & simplistic way of life, Kapil Dev as a common man, rose to a colossal stature across his whole nation with uncommon cricket records. A conjunction of guts & gentleman heroics!!! A nice human being above narrow minded objectives. As a player he invariably attributed his personal success to the team members as a whole. His celebration after taking a wicket or hitting six was always subdued and humble as a monk. A happy go lucky cricketer. A highly civilised sportsman who invoked good energy even for the opposition.
